“In addition to her normal duties, Natasha took upon herself to provide exceptional support and service to our organizing team. The first GMU SPACE DAY was a great success due to Natasha’s outstanding marketing material, and her extensive knowledge on how to create a successful event. She created a program pamphlet, signs for large sign holders so that visitors could easily find the event location, designed the Space Day T-shirt and made sure that everything was ready and in place for the event.

She was quick in answering email, making last minute corrections and dedicating significant time outside her normal work hours to this event. The event took place on a Saturday and involved two locations as well as speakers, twenty different organizations many volunteers and one thousand four hundred registered visitors. Natasha went above and beyond to help everyone, answer questions and provide excellent support.

Her positive attitude, her dedication to customer service and her commitment to make this event successful, definitely make her a candidate for any staff award. She is an exceptional employee and I highly recommend her.”

“I have worked with Natasha on several projects now and she is always a joy to work with due to her highly collaborative and creative nature.

Although I have had her produce t-shirts and flyers for many events now, there are two experiences that really stand out. Both of these events were unique and required the creation of new graphics and a fair amount of time to understand the nature of the event and our program needs.

Natasha and I had an initial consultation where I discussed the project goals. She then asked to see pictures of the events in the past as well as the location so that she could get a better feel for what we do and the event culture. She then spend some time on her own learning about the history of the programs. The resulting t-shirts were really great with subtle details that would only come from someone who had “done their homework” and spent time getting to know all aspects of the project and its participants.

Although, I did not have much feedback to give on her designs, the feedback I gave was well received and quickly led to the changes I requested. I have worked with Natasha several times since and my interactions were always consistent. She wants to learn everything she can about the project, produces quality work and responds quickly and courteously to feedback. Natasha demonstrates the collaborative nature of Mason and deserves recognition for consistent support of our programs in the College of Science!

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with Natasha Gilliam for over two years now at the College of Science. When I first joined the team as a student worker, Natasha would take the time out of her day to mentor me and ensure I was set up for success. Over the years, my relationship with Natasha has transformed from mentor to coworker, to friend. But regardless of status, she has always treated me with the upmost respect. The same respect that she treats everyone with.

Working alongside Natasha, she is action-orientated and always looking to please our clients. She goes above and beyond in projects—she does not limit herself to just graphic design. She is always asking logistical questions and ensuring that we have everything we need to complete the project the best we can. She stays in constant communication with the client and ensures we are always being transparent.

While Natasha is our graphic designer, she has worked on projects far above design. Her and I have collaborated on many projects together, especially social media campaigns. Without Natasha and her creativity, many of our campaigns would not be as successful as they are. Her help with video creation, taking on AJEDI initiatives, and her quick turnaround on social graphics are what stick out to me the most. She never shies away from lending a helping hand, especially when she has the opportunity to be creative. Even when being creative, she always stays true to the Mason brand and makes sure that our green and gold spirit is reflected in her work.

Natasha is one of the best coworkers I’ve ever had, and I truly feel privileged to work on the same team as her.

Natasha created the graphic and branded presence for the University’s first Space Day, collaborating with faculty, external partners and marcom team to create signage, programs, slides, and built the digital campaign for the entire effort. She helped organizers conceptualize event processes and protocols to ensure a safe and impactful event, working outside of normal working hours during an already extremely busy time of the college marcom production calendar.

Natasha took a leadership role in the planning and executing this event, advising the internal and external clients on logistics, branding, videography, photography and event execution. She was an integral member of the team, building all event attributes from scratch.

Natasha Gilliam goes above and beyond for the College of Science. Prior to the team hiring a digital content specialist, she juggled the graphic, photo, video, and social media needs of the entire college. These efforts supported the college’s goal to better highlight faculty research, student achievement, and the college’s dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion. She single-handedly produced a social media editorial calendar and worked closely with our student workers to maintain it. It greatly improved the college’s social media presence and provided a solid outlet for highlight Mason Science accomplishments and activities. That process continues now with the digital content specialists and put them in a position to run with an already high functioning social media presence.

Natasha creates graphic that recognize individual faculty on social media through #facultyfriday and staff through #staffspotlights. She supports individual academic offices through marketing materials and video creation. She created a “day in the life” video of a Chemistry PhD student to show prospective students what to expect in the program. She’s shouldered the promo materials for MAJOR college events and initiatives including ScienceConnect, Space Day and Women Leaders in STEM. The signage, materials, and photo support required for these events was done at a level difficult to maintain for someone with her workload, but she did so effectively, while also completing all other obligations.

Aside form major projects, Natasha brings a positive attitude to the office and is kind to all she encounters. It is a pleasure to work with someone who is always collegial and meets the deadlines she sets forth for herself. She is dependable, and a true creative that has elevated the College of Science’s marketing presence.

IT is my pleasure to endorse Natasha Gilliam for the Exceptional Support Award and the Martha J. Reiner Quality Customer Service Award. I have worked with Natasha since 2020. She has been a great asset to the COS Marketing/Communications team and to the College of Science as a whole. As a graphic specialist, Natasha’s contributions to COS events such as ScienceConnect, Celebration of Success, Women in Science, and Space Day have been imperative. She demonstrates many of the values that GMU holds dear both as a staff member and a GMU alumni. She is extremely knowledgable and always ready to assist.
